Windows West, LLC       IllumaSheer Soft Vertical Sheer

Frequently Asked Questions

SELLING CONSIDERATIONS

1. Center Open/Split Draw option – The center open spacing is eliminated to bring the sheer together in the center eliminating the center light gap. A traditional vertical blind has equal spacing throughout the width of the blind. However, when a sheer is mounted on to a center open vertical blind, the center gap is quite noticeable. Therefore, the center spacer is completely eliminated, allowing the two center slats/vanes to come together in the middle of the blind.

2. Closure – Blind closure will not be as tight as a traditional vertical blind due to the sheer fabric weaving in and out between the slats of the vertical blind. Closure will depend on the thickness of the fabric and whether a EuroHem or 4” hem is selected. Heavier fabrics will tend to gap more towards the bottom of the vertical blind, whereas lighter fabrics will have better closure.

3. Inside mount – There will be a light gap between the wall and slat. This gap is standard on all inside mounted vertical blinds to ensure perfect closure when the slats are tilted. It is more noticeable with a sheer because there is fabric attached from one vane to another, but not from the vane to the wall.

4. Wand option – The wand control is not recommended for windows larger than 80” x 80”. Due to the weight of the fabric on larger blinds, tilting may become difficult and potentially cause the wand tilt mechanism in the headrail to fail. Cord and chain controls will easily operate blinds as wide as 240” and 192” in length.

OPTIONS

Q. What is the difference between a EuroHem and a 4” Hem and is there a cost difference?
A. The Eurohem is a weighted bottom hem. The 4” hem is a double 4” sewn drapery style hem.
Our price list is based on the Eurohem style. The 4” hem option is and additional 10%.

Q. Can I order a motorized IllumaSheer?
A. Yes, we can motorize full tilt and traverse up to 160 sqft. (ie. 16ft wide by 10ft long). This is a line-voltage option only.

Q. Do you offer oversized IllumaSheers?
A. Yes, in any fabric that does not have a vertical pattern. Usually the maximum size we can make is 20ft wide by 16ft long.

Q. When is an IllumaSheer considered oversize?
A. Anything off your pricing grid. Wider than 192” and longer than 118” in most cases. Call 800 385-3888 for pricing.

INSTALLATION

Q. How do I install IllumaSheer?
A. You can view and print the installation instructions from the Installation Instructions page on the IllumaSheer Page.

CLEANING

Q. How can I clean my IllumaSheer?
A. All of our fabrics are machine washable with the exception of Organza, Crush, and Fantasy Crush. Machine wash in a gentle cycle in Woolite detergent. Place some towels beneath the vertical and hang your sheer back onto your vertical blind to dry. The towels will collect any moisture that might be left after the spin dry cycle. IllumaSheers that are not washable can be cleaned by a professional drapery cleaning service. However have your cleaner take care with the memory stitch t-tags at the bottom of the sheer. In some cases they can be damaged if not cleaned appropriately.

TROUBLESHOOT

Q. I received my IllumaSheer and it has purple dots?
A. We use disappearing ink fabric marking pens in production. The markings will disappear anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of days, depending on the humidity. You can remove them by dabbing alcohol to the fabric.

Q. The vanes on my track or not aligned.
A. We use a self-aligning Vertical track. The carriers can be self-aligned by taking the chain and clutching it until all the carriers are aligned. Turn all the vanes to one side and then rotate in the opposite direction until all the vanes are aligned. It is normal for you to hear a racheting noise from the track when forcing all the vanes to align.
